Looking to sell or trade your LEGO kits? Here's what you should know before heading into the Brick Store:

LEGO Sets
Sets are highly valuable and resellers will typically give 70% to 80% of the average Bricklink price for used, but complete sets, with a slight premium if you are willing to accept store credit. For pre-built sets without a validated inventory, this will drop to 50 - 60% of the market value, and even less if it is missing minifigures. You don't typically need boxes or instructions when trading in or selling LEGO sets to resellers, though it may help you justify a marginally higher price if it's all in good condition

LEGO Minifigures
Minifigures can be sold ~40% -to 60% of their current Bricklink market value, depending largely on their theme, completeness, and condition. Keep in mind the average price of minifigures across all themes is ~$2, with more popular themes pushing an average price of ~$15 per figure. Most resellers are well aware of minifigure prices and will provide exact offers for the popular figures and a bulk "by theme" rate for any others.

LEGO Parts
Most Brick Stores will not purchase individual LEGO pieces at the market rate; instead they will pay a bulk rate per pound of $3 - $10/lb ($1 - $4/kg) or offer a similar amount in store credit. The price per pound for bulk LEGO will depend on the age, condition, noticeable themes, and part type. Expect a slightly higher rate for popular themes such as Star Wars, Bionicle, and Castle, as well as for collections of mostly vintage parts (70s - 90s).

WILCO LEGO ECONOMY FACT #17
Prices fluctuate on the resale market dramatically. Around the holiday season, average price per set increases by an incredible 27%! The best times to sell your products to used and second hand LEGO shops is in late summer early fall as resellers begin to stock up. The best time to buy is usually just after the New Year when resellers are unloading their surplus stock and making room for next year's sets!
